It brings to mind Sontag's almost revelatory experience when indulging in the work of her favorite writers such as James Salter, whose prose she described reading with an "intense pleasure." I believe Salter's fiction, it's form and exquisite sentence structure, above its' content, is a perfect example of what she so valued in art despite, or more likely, because of her prodigious intellect.
